Sometimes there are conspiracies...maybe @ 02:18 am

marlowe1:
There are so many bullshit conspiracy theories being tossed about with the internet and Alex Jones that it almost seems crazy to be suspicious of something that could very well be a conspiracy. But the death of Ibragim Todashev really makes no sense. I mean, I don't know the guy, so he could have been pushed into confessing to a triple homicide that linked him and the Boston marathon bomber. He could have outright said that he did it and then made a move on the FBI agents only to get shot in the process. This is all very possible.

But improbable. More probable is the FBI agent getting pissed at the guy and shooting him and then writing an official report that clears a baffling homicide, puts him in a hero position for two major trials and then stabs himself to make it look good.

Makes sense especially since Ibragim Todashev's friends said that he was getting afraid of the questions.

Now I'm not going to say it's one way or the other. I don't know. However, unlike 911 Truth or Obama is a Nigerian or Aaron Burr had Merriwether Lewis killed to stop him from narking on him, this is not an elaborate conspiracy that requires years of planning and thousands of people keeping silent about "the truth" (or at least neglecting to tell Alex Jones that he's really correct in his insanity). It requires one FBI guy and his partners going "Ok, fuck it. This guy is probably guilty and if you don't back me up, how can anyone ever trust you again?" and a case clearance.

Oh hell, Ibragim Todashev could have killed himself and the FBI guys could have just decided to close a case that they were 90% certain that he did anyhow.

Iron Man 3 @ 10:19 pm

Finally saw Iron Man 3 with the kids today. It was fun. Really liked Guy Pearce and it was fun how Tony Stark was hardly ever in his suit. I loved how Pepper became more of a character and tough to boot,  and I wish I understood the Extremis (is that what’s it’s called?) drug more. I liked Tony’s anxiety attacks–made him more real. I hope there will be a next one. I would like to see Tony grow some more and see what happens with Pepper.

I have other potential good news, but won’t jinx it by talking about it too early. Hopefully soon.

It is now raining. Pouring. Not usual for us, but it’s great for us. We need the moisture a lot.

I haven’t been eating very well lately. Not enough veggies. Got to try to change that. Not enough tea either. Gotta mend that. Course I did manage not to eat buttered popcorn and drink diet coke at the theater. That’s got to be a plus, right?

Kitsnaps: Rhinos @ 06:00 am

Rhinos
Rhinos
We were hoping to get a picture of the new baby rhino at the Dublin Zoo, but although I caught a 2-second glimpse of him, there was not a photo opportunity. But some of the others were helpfully hanging out looking large and rock-like. :)

lazuli? parula? vireo? I don't know. @ 10:11 pm

gurdonark:
Today I got to drive to work on a cool morning. At lunch I went to Breckinridge Park. I took a picture of a bird I cannot identify--it looks a bit like a vireo, a bit like a northern parula, and a bit like a lazuli bunting. I hope to sort out what it is in due course.

One of my postal chess games looks even more clearly lost. Perhaps I will resign soon, but I must see if I must give up hope instead. I read about the Tennison Gambit today during lunch. Otto Tennison was a curious fellow. He was a Louisianan who was a Union high-ranking officer who switched sides in the middle of the war. He invented the gambit after the war. The gambit, a forerunner of the Budapest Defense, appeals to me because it is very odd. It goes: 1. Nf3 d5 2. e4. I rarely play gambits in real games, though.

Tonight I stopped by Oak Point Park on the way home and shot several pictures of a singing dickcissel. I watched "Nashville", which packed a very heavy if soapy punch. I read that Pidora has been invented. That gives me incentive to fire up my raspberry pi.

Might be leaving LJ @ 09:41 pm

midlife_wreck:

I am seriously considering building myself a WordPress site and blogging openly there.

A lot of the people I have had a symbiotic LJ relationship with are no longer active here. Mostly I feel like I am writing to an audience of...me. If I do leave, then I will be posting in a public environment, which will cause me to seriously hold back a lot of personal posts. That's a downside.

But I already own a domain name and do like the idea of storing my content on my server and not having to pay extra for the things LJ offers. Plus it would be a place for me to set up photo galleries of my further adventures, like the recent trip to Ireland.

The book comes out in November. If I'm going to do this, to create a more public persona, I best get it started before then.

If it happens, I will post a link here, for anyone who wants to mosey on over and take a gander.

Historians credit James Cook with discovering Australia back in 1770. But a long ignored discovery of five African copper coins in its Northern Territory, along with a map with an "X" on it, suggests somebody beat him to it — and by a long shot.

Gremlin update @ 09:33 pm

I registered my awesome, pimped out AMC Gremlin for the International Route 66 car show in September. The festival gets 50,000 visitors. Huge audience for my car.

I'm partly doing this to irk the automotive purists. AMCs are seriously looked down upon by the Chevy BelAir-owning old men.

Now I have a to do list for the car. New tires. New window tinting. And maybe finally get the 8 track player working again.

I am excited.

• What are you currently reading?
I've still been carrying around Of Love and Other Demons by Gabriel García Márquez. idk. I don't really like it? But I keep reading it? It's a thing that's been happening, I think mostly because I'm too distracted to commit to anything else.

• What did you recently finish reading?
UMM SO I STARTED READING FALL OUT BOY FIC & IT IS [personal profile] were_duck's FAULT.

I read this Fall Out Boy primer. THE PICTURES OF PETE WENTZ'S DOG ARE THE BEST but also everything omggggg

Also this Pete & Patrick picspam.

Cross-Country by [archiveofourown.org profile] inlovewithnight - MY FIRST BANDOM FIC. Regarding the 10-year friendship of Andy & Pete. <3 <3 <3 I always feel this huge attachment to drummers b/c they're overlooked & also b/c I played drums & still incessantly tap things.

So, So Fucked by [archiveofourown.org profile] reni_days - Pete/PStump. Pete accidentally "outs" himself and Patrick on Good Morning America. Only problem? They're not gay. What now?
UGGGHHHH SO MANY FEELINGS JFC, this is the one I capslocked about on Twitter.

(I've Loved) Everything About You That Hurts by [archiveofourown.org profile] reni_days - There are parts of Pete that will always belong to Patrick. Set when the band was on hiatus.

This Seed Burst and Grown by [archiveofourown.org profile] Sena - Nobody's in a band, but Pete and Patrick meet in the Chicago music scene, anyway. Patrick's sixteen and mostly innocent and kind of confused and Pete's older and cooler and fucked up in ways that just make Patrick like him more. (NSFW)

run for ur life & take all that u can. xo. by [archiveofourown.org profile] lalejandra - SO IN THIS ONE THEY ARE WEREWOLVES?! Also bonus [personal profile] were_duck cameo that made me really excited.

Document by [archiveofourown.org profile] azurejay - The one where Patrick is not a girl.
This is my hands-down favorite fic in the fandom so far. Everybody felt so real, & I spent time hating everyone but just UGH SO GOOD.
Trigger warning for attempted suicide. I ah, really would have appreciated a warning for that :(

rather fight with you by longtime_lurker - Pete/Patrick outside the van. I liked this but also felt uncomfortable the whole time BECAUSE ANDY AND JOE WERE IN THE VAN?!

Chord Change by giddygeek

Patricksitting (call it a love song) by adellyna - So Pete looks after Patrick while Patrick's parents are out of town. Underage. Unf. OMG going to look for the link, I realized this is three parts SO THERE'S MORE!! /deep cackle/

• What do you think you’ll read next?
Well, if the past two days are any indication, about a billion WisCon emails.
